Broomfield, Colo., July 1, 2010 – MWH, the global wet infrastructure sector leader and provider of environmental engineering, construction and strategic consulting services, is proud to announce sponsorship of Biennial of the Americas (Biennial), an international event that celebrates the culture, people and ideas of the Western Hemisphere.
“Nearly half of our employees live and work in the Americas region, so in addition to celebrating arts and culture, the Biennial provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with leaders, businesses and citizens about important issues facing the region where we live and work,” says Dan McConville, president of the Americas region of MWH. “These interactions will lead to better understanding of the people and cultures we partner with in communities throughout the region.”
As part of the MWH organization’s participation in the Biennial, Juan Targett, country manager for MWH in Peru, will participate on the Americas Roundtable on Health, which will focus on transnational health threats including cancer, diabetes, obesity and the H1N1 virus. Targett will emphasize that access to clean water and sanitation is the critical foundation for good health throughout the Americas. The roundtable will take place on Thursday, July 8, 2010 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in Denver, Colo.
Aligning with the organization’s current role as Lead Technical Designer for the Third Set of Locks project for the expansion of the Panama Canal, MWH will host a private event for leaders from the U.S. and Panama at the Biennial of the Americas Panama Breakfast on July 12. MWH has worked in Panama since the 1950’s, working on numerous projects since that time including preparing the first hydroelectric inventory of Panama that identified many projects in operation today, as well as designing and supervising construction of the 7 MW La Yeguada hydropower project, one of the first hydropower projects in the country.
Additionally, MWH employees will celebrate MWH Day at the Biennial of the Americas on Saturday, July 10.
The Biennial is hosted by the City of Denver, Colo., just a few miles from the MWH organization’s regional and global headquarters in Broomfield, Colo. The global MWH organization includes offices in seven countries and nearly 3,000 employees within the Americas region. MWH has been involved in some of the largest and most complex civil works projects ever constructed in South America, including the 10,000 MW Guri Dam and Hydropower project in Venezuela, which at the time of construction was the largest hydropower facility in the world.
